Oceanside JV narrowly escapes Gardiner

ROCKLAND – The Oceanside girls junior varsity opened the night of hoops against Gardiner with a narrow 31-28 win.

The Mariners led after each quarter, 9-6, 22-12 and 26-22 heading into the final stanza. Both teams struggled to put points on the board in the second half. In the end, Oceanside was able to hold off a fierce charge by the visiting Tigers.

Scoring for Oceanside was Molly Gould with eight points; Anna Poisson seven; Sara Dorr six; Chloe Jones and Kassidy Robinson three each; and Hannah Benner and Kalli Grover two each.

The Mariners were 5-of-10 (50 percent) from the foul line.

For Gardiner, Jaycie Stevens had nine points; Anna Toman six; Haile Lovely and Katie Owen four each; JillianBission three; and Meghan Meehan two.

The Tigers were perfect from the foul line hitting 6-of-6 (100 percent). They also had four 3-pointers, three from Stevens and one from Bission.
