Camden Hills just falls short with Lawrence; playoffs up next

ROCKPORT – The Camden Hills varsity girls basketball team matched up with Lawrence of Fairfield Saturday in a make-up game from this past week's winter weather.

The two teams came into the day with the same records and the game lived up to what everyone expected with Lawrence taking an exciting 55-54 win.

Lawrence led at each quarter end, 12-9, 24-23, and 42-38 heading into the final stanza, where Camden Hills outscored Lawrence 16-13 before falling 55-54.

"Yes, it was a tough loss," said Camden Hills coach Kim Kuhn. "We couldn't make our shots in the first half and made a few mental mistakes at the end. Overall I'm very proud of the girls."

Camden Hills finishes the regular season 11-7 and will take on Nokomis of Newport Friday, Feb. 17 at the Augusta Civic Center with a 3 p.m. tip-off.  Lawrence (12-6) will follow at 4:30 p.m. with a game against Hampden Academy.

Scoring for Lawrence was, Hunter Mercier with 21 points; Camryn Caldwell 13; Molly Folsom nine; Megan Curtis five; Morgan Boudreau three; and Brooklyn Lambert and Keagan Alley two each.

The Bull Dogs were 10-of-14 (71 percent) from the foul line and they had seven 3-pointers, four from Mercier and one each from Boudreau, Caldwell, and Curtis.

For Camden Hills Charlotte Messer had 17 points; Mara Dostie 13; Kassie Krul nine; Lauren Miller seven; MiAe DeWaard five; and Kristina Kelly three.

Camden was 12-of-19 (63 percent) from the foul line and they had four 3-pointers, three from Dostie and one from Messer.
