Hampden Academy girls overpower Camden Hills in varsity matchup

Wednesday night in Rockport the Camden Hills girls basketball team did not have a good night as the varsity, just like the JV, fell to the visitors with a 67-45 loss.

The game originally scheduled for Tuesday evening was moved to Wednesday due to inclement weather. With the win, Hampden goes to 5-2 while Camden Hills falls to 2-3 on the season.

Hampden Academy will face-off against Brewer in an away game Friday, Jan. 6 while Camden Hills will play Belfast at Belfast Thursday with a 6:30 tip-off time.

Camden Hills jumped out to a 14-11 first quarter lead, however, played catchup the rest of the way as Hampden outscored the Windjammers 24-11 in the second quarter to take a 35-25 lead into the halftime. Doubling up Camden Hills 18-9 in the third quarter pretty much put the game away as Hampden took a 53-34 lead into the final stanza.

Scoring for Camden Hills was, Charlotte Messer with 19 points; Kassie Krul and MiAe DeWaard seven each; Kris Kelly five; Lauren Miller four; and Mara Dostie three.

Camden Hills had three 3-pointers, one each from Messer, Kelly, and Dostie. The Windjammers were 4-of-9 (44 percent) from the foul line.

For Hampden, Bailey Donovan had a game-high 21 points; Braylee Wildman 17; Alydia Brilliant 10; Peyton Smith five; Sophie Narofskyfour; Emily Murphy, Isabella Soucy, Marissa Gilpin, Brooklyn Scott, and Sadie Francis two each.

The Broncos were 5-of-11 (45 percent) from the charity stripe and they knocked down four 3-pointers, three from Wildman and one from Smith.
