Oceanside JV girls battle with a tough Brewer team

Wednesday night the Oceanside girls basketball program hosted Brewer High School in JV and varsity games with the Mariners holding off a determined Brewer 50-44 in the opening contest.

Oceanside took a 10-9 first quarter lead and a 22-17 halftime advantage. At the end of three-quarters of play, Oceanside led 30-26 and held off the Witches for the win.

Scoring for the Mariner was Sara Dorr with 11 points; Hannah Benner and Chloe Jones eight each; Anna Poissen seven; Kalli Grover six; and Molly Gould and Kassidy Robinson five each.

The Mariners were 21-of-34 (62 percent) from the foul line. They had one 3-point basket from Benner.

For Brewer, Ashley Tanguay led all scorers with 22 points; Jordan Goodrich, Cassie Hillman and Kathryn Austin five each; Kassi Day four; Brielle Dickinson two; and Jayden Keefe one.

Brewer was 12-of-22 (64 percent) from the foul line and they had six 3-point baskets, four from Tanguay, and one each from Goodrich and Hillman.
