Chargers first half leads to victory over DEFY in 5/6B boys travel

GLENBURN - Sunday afternoon at the Glenburn School, the host team Chargers built up an 11 point first half lead and hung on to defeat the DEFY (Ellsworth) 5/6B boys 37-28 in an Eastern Maine Basketball League travel game.

Glenburn opened with a 7-3 first quarter lead, but came out in the second period on fire. They ran off 10 unanswered points to lead 17-3 with 1:57 to play in the quarter. The Chargers took an 18-7 lead into the half time break.

The Eagles went on to out score Glenburn 21-19 over the second half, but they were unable to overcome the 11-point first half deficit.

Brady Hews scored a game high 10 points to lead Glenburn, while Colby Haggerty and Theo Blanke each added seven points. Jacob Burke scored six points and Aiden Ouellette had five points.

The Chargers had one 3-point basket by Ouellette, and they went just 2-for-10 (20 per cent) from the free throw line.

Alex McGown scored six points, and Daniel Linckey added five points to top the Eagles in scoring. Reggie Bunker. Cam Connors, and Caleb Jordan each scored four points, and Cooper Mitchell had three points. Luke Horn and Ridge Weatherbee both chipped in with one point.

DEFY went 4-for-12 (33 per cent) from the charity stripe.
