St. George eliminates Camden-Rockport 8th grade baseball

TENANTS HARBOR – The St. George baseball team hosted Camden-Rockport Middle School Monday afternoon in a Busline League quarterfinal.

A tight game from start to finish came down to an unassisted double play with the tying and go-ahead runs on second and third base and one out in the top of the seventh. A little pop fly that pitcher Obie Miller was able to make a play on and race to third ahead of the returning runner for the double play to end the game with a 7-6 score sending St. George to the semifinals.

St. George scored two in the first inning, three in the second, one in the third and one in the fifth while CRMS had two in the first three in the third and one in the fourth.

Zach Upham and Obie Miller pitched for St. George going seven innings allowing six runs, two earned runs on four hits and five walks while striking out seven.

Offensively for the Dragons, Ethan Carballo had three singles and a run; Miller added a single, double and a run; Logan Putansu had two runs; Upham a run; and Sam Miller and Zeke Miller a single and run each.

For Camden-Rockport, (no first names provided), J. Fraser, S. Moody, and A. Schecter toed the rubber going six innings allowing seven runs on seven hits and seven walks while striking out six.

At the plate for the Schooners, C. Messer (single, run), S. Moody (3 walks, 2 runs), A. Schecter (single, 2 runs), J. Fraser (single, run), and C. Sawyer (single).

St. George will travel to Belfast Tuesday weather permitting for a semifinal game against No. 1 Troy Howard.
