St. George girls capture South Division championship with win over Nobleboro

TENANTS HARBOR – The No. 1 St. George Lady Dragons hosted No. 2 Nobleboro in the Busline League Small School South Civision championship Wednesday afternoon at the St. George school.

As were the games between these two teams in the regular season, this was a hard fought close game from start to finish with the Dragons taking the 42-32 win and the division championship.

The win also takes them to Wiscasset Friday, Jan. 20 for the Busline League Small School Championship where they will tip off against the North Division champion Hope who defeated Vinalhaven today as well.

At the end of the first quarter St. George was up 6-4 and took a 20-16 lead into the halftime break. The Dragons lead stayed at four points after three quarters of play, 30-26. St. George played stronger in the fourth quarter outscoring Nobleboro 12-6 for the 42-31 win.

Scoring for St. George was Seana Montgomery with a game-high 18 points; Grace Cody and Leah Cushman nine points each; and Jordan Beal, Cassie Evans and Grace Young two each.

For Nobleboro, Maddy York had 10 points; Katelin Tozier six; Olivia Styles five; Eliza Spear four; Kadence Barbour and Hayley Phillips two each; and Paige LaFrance one.
